Dhaka, Dec 01 (V7N) – Begum Khaleda Zia, the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister, is in stable condition and showing slight improvement while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, according to Mahfuz Alam, Information Adviser to the Interim Government.
Speaking to reporters late on Sunday night after personally visiting the hospital, Mahfuz Alam said he had come on his own initiative to check on Khaleda Zia’s well-being. “She has made significant contributions to the country and has endured many sacrifices. Like all citizens, I have prayed for her speedy recovery,” he stated.
Alam confirmed that discussions with the medical team indicated Khaleda Zia’s condition has remained stable over the past few days, with slight improvement noted. Doctors are hopeful that her health will continue to improve in the coming days.
The adviser added that, given her decades of public service and sacrifices, it is expected that Khaleda Zia will regain full health and witness the ongoing democratic rebuilding process in Bangladesh. He remarked, “We aim to build a new Bangladesh, even for those involved in the July uprising, keeping in mind her vision and guidance.”
Regarding BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, Mahfuz Alam stated that the current government is prepared to provide all necessary assistance for his repatriation.
Khaleda Zia, who has faced various health challenges while in detention and post-release treatment, continues to receive medical care under strict supervision. Medical sources at Evercare Hospital confirmed that she is under constant monitoring, receiving routine examinations, and responding positively to prescribed treatments.
Political observers note that Khaleda Zia’s health has been a matter of national concern, with several political leaders, civil society members, and supporters emphasizing the need for her well-being. Her recovery is seen as critical not only for her personal health but also for ongoing political processes within Bangladesh.
The interim government has maintained that while Khaleda Zia receives medical attention, political stability and citizen welfare remain a priority, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to support both healthcare and democratic engagement in the country.
