Teknaf, Dec 01 (V7N) – Four boys were abducted by armed assailants in Teknaf on Sunday evening while they were playing near their homes, prompting an immediate police response and a community-led search in the nearby hills.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the South Shilkhali East Para area of Baharchhara Union, according to local Ward-4 UP member Hafez Ahmed. The kidnappers initially seized six children at gunpoint, but two managed to escape and alert local residents.

The abducted boys were identified as Mamun, 17, son of Achiur Rahman; Anwar Hossain, 14, son of Abul Kashem; Gias Uddin, 15, son of Md. Islam; and Abu Bakkar Siddique, 13, son of Md. Hasan.
The two who escaped are Ismail, 17, son of Md. Abdullah, and Shahin, 13, son of Ayub Ali.

According to witnesses and local officials, an armed group descended from the hills and took the boys to a remote forested area. “After hearing the news, we informed the police immediately. Local residents and I have continued the search throughout the night,” UP member Ahmed said. He added that, based on past incidents, the kidnapping may be linked to demands for ransom, though no motive has yet been confirmed.

Durgay Biswas, in-charge of the Baharchhara Police Investigation Center, confirmed the incident and said an initial police team visited the site. “No formal complaint has been filed so far, but officers are gathering information and working to rescue the abducted boys,” he stated.

Police and local sources report that Teknaf has seen a sharp rise in abductions in the past year. At least 264 people were kidnapped from different areas, with most victims reportedly released after ransom payments.
