Ukhiya, Nov 28 (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 360,000 yaba tablets during an overnight operation in the Fariarbil area of Palongkhali Union, near the Ukhiya border. No suspects were arrested during the raid. According to BGB, the confiscated narcotics have an estimated market value of around Tk 10.8 crore.
The operation was carried out shortly after midnight on Thursday. BGB officials said that at approximately 12:10 am, acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from the Palongkhali BOP took position around 2.5 kilometers inside Bangladesh from the border pillar in Fariarbil. At around 12:30 am, two individuals were seen entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar side. When challenged by the patrol team, the suspects dropped three black bags and fled into the darkness.
Upon searching the abandoned bags, BGB recovered 36 air-sealed packs wrapped in khaki tape, containing a total of 360,000 yaba pills. Despite launching a combing operation throughout the night, the patrol team was unable to apprehend the fleeing traffickers.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, psc, Commander of the Ukhiya Battalion, stated that intelligence surveillance has been intensified to identify those involved in the attempted smuggling. The recovered yaba tablets have been handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action.
