Dhaka, Nov 30 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into allegations that Transcom Group CEO Simin Rahman paid a '100 crore taka bribe' to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The agency’s deputy director, AKM Mahbubur Rahman, has been assigned to investigate the claims, a concerned official confirmed. The ACC is also examining whether any bank accounts should be frozen or assets seized as part of the probe.
The allegations state that the bribe was paid to cover up multiple cases, including murder, share fraud, and cheating, involving Transcom Group.
Earlier, Simin Rahman’s younger sister accused him of murder. Subsequently, a total of 11 people, including Simin Rahman and his son Zarif Ayat Hossain, Head of Transformation at Transcom Group, were named in a case filed on March 21, 2024, at Gulshan Police Station, Dhaka. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) later took over the investigation from the local police.
It is worth noting that on June 16, 2023, Arshad Waliur Rahman was found dead in his bedroom at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka. He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. On March 31, 2024, the High Court ordered Simin Rahman and three others involved in the case to surrender within 72 hours of returning to the country.
