Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N)- The Election Commission (EC), led by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, met with President Md. Shahabuddin on Wednesday ahead of the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections. The delegation included four election commissioners and EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

During the meeting at Bangabhaban, the CEC briefed the President on the overall preparations for the upcoming elections. President Shahabuddin expressed satisfaction with the briefing and assured that the government would provide all necessary support to ensure free and fair elections.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters that the discussion included updating the voter list, registering political parties, and holding a referendum on the day of the parliamentary elections. The meeting also covered the extension of voting time by one hour and other operational matters of the Election Commission.

After the meeting, the EC delegation proceeded to Nirbhaya Bhavan, where a meeting chaired by the CEC is underway. The announcement of the election schedule will follow this session.

According to EC officials, Bangladesh Television and Betar have been called to the EC at 4 pm to record the CEC's speech announcing the election schedule, following the traditional procedure whereby the schedule is revealed on the same day the President is briefed and the speech is recorded.
