Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) has formally requested the Ministry of Public Administration to appoint executive magistrates nationwide to ensure strict compliance with the election code of conduct for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
The request, conveyed in a letter signed by Mohammad Monir Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the EC’s Election Management Branch, was sent to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry on Thursday.
According to the letter, preparatory activities for the elections are underway, and the EC has decided to appoint at least two executive magistrates in each upazila and police station under the Mobile Court Act, 2009. These magistrates will ensure adherence to the code of conduct from the day after the election schedule announcement until two days after voting. The EC urged the Ministry to take necessary measures for these appointments.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin is scheduled to announce the election schedule in a nationwide address on Bangladesh Television and Betar at 6 pm today. His speech, recorded Wednesday afternoon, will outline the roadmap for the elections.
Following the announcement, the appointed executive magistrates are expected to begin duties across the country starting Friday.
