Dhaka, Dec 13 (V7N)- Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud has said that the recent attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a potential candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch, will not have a major impact on the upcoming national elections, and that the polls will be held on time.
The election commissioner said that if isolated incidents are used to raise concerns about the election process, it will become difficult to achieve the intended goal of holding a timely and credible election. However, he acknowledged that the law and order situation needs to be further strengthened to ensure a peaceful electoral environment.
Meanwhile, Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured after being shot by miscreants in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on Friday. His physical condition remains serious.
Sources said that although no official medical briefing has been given yet, Hadi will be kept under close observation for the next 48 to 72 hours. A medical board formed for his treatment examined him on Saturday morning and reportedly stated that his condition is still not out of danger.
The doctors conveyed the latest condition to Hadi’s brother, according to hospital sources.
