Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) — The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has once again extended the deadline for filing income tax returns at the last moment, allowing individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) to submit their returns without penalty until January 31.
Earlier, the deadline had already been extended by one month.
Traditionally, November 30 is the final date for submitting income tax returns. However, the NBR extends the deadline almost every year, often multiple times. With limited exceptions, taxpayers are required to file their returns online.
There are more than 12.5 million Tax Identification Number (TIN) holders in the country. Taxpayers with taxable income are legally required to submit returns. According to NBR data, about 2.6 million returns have been filed so far.
Tax returns can be submitted through the NBR’s online system without uploading any supporting documents. Taxpayers are required to provide relevant financial information while filing their e-returns and are advised to preserve all supporting documents, as these may be required later for audit or verification purposes.
To file returns online, taxpayers must first register on the designated NBR website. After registration, returns can be submitted by logging in with a password.
Taxpayers can also pay their taxes online while submitting returns. Available payment methods include bank transfer, debit and credit cards, and mobile financial services such as bKash, Rocket, Nagad, and other approved platforms.
