Dhaka, Jan 12 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) held the third day of hearings to dispose of 71 appeals against the Returning Officer’s decisions on nomination papers for the 13th National Parliament election on Monday (January 12).
Of the 71 appeals, 41 candidates regained their candidacies, while the appeals of 25 candidates were rejected, 4 appeals were postponed, and 1 candidate withdrew his appeal.
Notably, the EC rejected Jamaat candidate AKM Fazlul Haque’s appeal from Chittagong-9 due to dual citizenship. Meanwhile, Hasnat Qayyum, president of the Bangladesh State Reform Movement and independent candidate from Kishoreganj-5, successfully regained his candidacy on appeal.
Earlier, 51 candidates regained their candidacies on Saturday, and 57 candidates were validated on Sunday.
According to the revised election schedule:

Appeal hearings will continue until January 18.

January 20 is the last date for withdrawal of candidacy.

Final lists of candidates and symbol allocation will be published on January 21.

Election campaigns will begin on January 22 and continue until 7:30 am on February 10.

Voting day is scheduled for February 12, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
