Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N) – A number of advisors to the interim government led by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus have formally declared their assets, which will be made public soon, according to the Chief Advisor’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
He made the remarks at a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy on Monday afternoon. Shafiqul Alam emphasized that while he could not predict the election outcome, the 13th National Parliament Election and referendum will be conducted in a free, fair, and festive atmosphere.
Regarding political activity, Alam noted that the Awami League, the party ousted from power during the mass uprising, has largely remained online and has not been participating in public processions since November.
The press secretary also highlighted media freedom under the interim government, stating that for the past 18 months, media outlets have operated without restrictions. He added that news organizations that had been closed during the previous government’s tenure, including during Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, have been reopened, and numerous reforms have been implemented in the sector.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar provided further details on election monitoring, noting that 330 foreign observers will be present for the elections, including 211 from the European Union, to ensure transparency and credibility. He also clarified that the interim government does not aim to arrest anyone or revoke their academic or professional certificates.
