Employees of a garment factory in Gazipur took to the streets on Monday, demanding their overdue wages and Eid bonuses.
Starting their protest at 6 am, workers from Keya Knit Composite Limited blocked the Konabari-Kashimpur road to voice their grievances.
Sub-Inspector Saidur Rahman from Konabari police station reported that the workers were protesting for unpaid wages.
According to the demonstrators, the factory management has not disbursed salaries for February, affecting around 8,000 employees. They vowed to continue protesting until their salaries, Eid bonuses, and annual leave allowances are settled.
Administrative officer Sumon Mia of Keya Knit Composite Limited confirmed that only February salaries remain outstanding and expressed intent to address the issue through dialogue with the workers.
Industrial Police Sub-Inspector Enamul Haque stated that officers from Konabari police station and the Industrial Police are present at the scene to manage the situation.
