DHAKA, March 8, (VN7) - The Ministry of Education has decided to keep all English-medium schools across the country closed from Monday until the end of the government-declared Ramadan and Eid holidays.
The decision was made on Sunday at a policy‑formulation meeting on English-medium schools and coaching centres, held at the conference room of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. The meeting was chaired by Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
Officials said the move was taken after discussions with representatives of English-medium institutions operating under foreign curricula, considering the difficulties faced by city residents during Ramadan—particularly in Dhaka and other major urban centres—as well as the prevailing global situation.
During the closure period, institutions will be allowed to conduct only mandatory examinations, and only according to previously approved schedules.
The meeting also decided that all coaching centres, whether serving Bangla-medium or English-medium students, will remain fully suspended during the same period.
Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
