Dhaka, Mar 21 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said that celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr in a “fascism-free environment” has brought a special sense of joy to the nation.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after offering Eid prayers at the National Eidgah Maidan on Saturday morning.
Mirza Fakhrul stated that this year’s Eid celebration, held in what he described as a “fascism-free atmosphere,” allowed for the formal exchange of greetings with the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He expressed optimism that the country would move forward on the path of building a democratic Bangladesh through unity and cooperation.
However, he also noted a sense of sadness, mentioning that the festival felt incomplete without the presence of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah Maidan adjacent to the High Court at 8:30 am, where approximately one lakh worshippers participated. Of them, around 35,000 prayed inside the main pandal, while the remaining devotees gathered in surrounding areas and streets.
