Dhaka, Apr 25 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a stern directive to government officials, calling on them to view their roles strictly as servants of the people rather than masters of the state. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the BIAM Foundation’s new auditorium building on Saturday morning, the Prime Minister emphasized that the legitimacy of the current administration is rooted in the democratic mandate of a population that sought a just and welfare-oriented governance system after fifteen years. He underscored that the mass uprising of July 2024 served as a definitive reminder that the citizens are the true owners of the state, and the administration must reflect this reality in its daily operations.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to the "July Charter," stating that every point of the document will be implemented to the letter to ensure the aspirations of the uprising are met. He noted that the era of partisan influence in the civil service has ended, with talent, skill, and professional experience now serving as the sole criteria for appointments, transfers, and promotions. By removing political bias from the state machinery, the administration aims to foster a more confident and creative workforce capable of meeting the complex challenges of modern governance.
Addressing the need for modernization, the Prime Minister highlighted that the development of human resources through advanced training and the strategic use of technology is a top priority for his cabinet. He argued that there is no alternative to a people-friendly public administration if the country is to achieve its long-term development goals. He called upon officials at all levels to embrace a spirit of responsibility and transparency, ensuring that state institutions remain accessible and responsive to the needs of every citizen.
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister envisioned a transformed Bangladesh where the government and the bureaucracy work in tandem to uphold the rights of the people. He stated that the current government is dedicated to building the "expected Bangladesh"—a nation defined by justice, accountability, and the empowerment of its youth. He urged the officials of the BIAM Foundation and the broader civil service to lead this transformation by becoming role models of integrity and public service.
