Dhaka, April 26 (V7N)- Authorities in the United States have confirmed the death of Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Sultana Brishti following the recovery of DNA evidence from the residence of the main suspect in Florida. The development has triggered widespread grief and anger among her family and community in Bangladesh, who are demanding swift recovery of her body and justice for the Murder.
According to Florida law enforcement officials, DNA evidence linked to Brishti was recovered during a search of the home of the prime accused, Hisham Saleh Abugarbei. While the evidence has confirmed her death, authorities have not yet been able to locate her body. An intensive search operation is currently underway.
Brishti’s family members and locals in her home district of Madaripur have expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the incident. They have called for the immediate recovery of her remains and a fair trial of those responsible.
Her sister said, “The mystery behind the murder must be uncovered. We want justice for this brutal act.”
Brishti had moved to the United States just seven months ago for higher education. Originally from Char Gobindapur village in Madaripur, she had been living with her family in Mirpur, Dhaka before going abroad.
During her studies, she became acquainted with another Bangladeshi student, Jamil Ahmed Limon. On April 16, both Brishti and Limon were reportedly abducted from their university campus following a dispute involving Limon’s roommate. After remaining missing for 10 days, authorities now believe both students were killed.
The main suspect, Hisham Saleh Abugarbei, a 26-year-old former student of the university’s management department, is reportedly of Palestinian origin and a U.S. citizen. Authorities have brought multiple serious charges against him, including:
- Domestic violence
- Assault
- Wrongful confinement
- Destruction of evidence
- Concealing a body
- Failure to report a death
Investigators have also revealed that the suspect has a history of domestic violence, with previous complaints filed by his family.
US law enforcement agencies continue their search for the victims’ bodies while gathering further evidence in the case. The incident has sparked concern among Bangladeshi students abroad and renewed calls for stronger safety measures.
