In a bid to curb accidents during Eid travel, the police have authorized motorcycles to utilize dedicated lanes on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Dhaka-Mawa expressway. With the recent inauguration of the Padma Bridge, motorcycle traffic on this expressway has significantly surged, leading to an increase in accidents.

To address this concern, various precautionary measures are being implemented ahead of Eid. Approximately 40 kilometers of the expressway and 13 kilometers of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway fall within Munshiganj. A deployment of around 200 policemen across different points in this section is planned. Their duties will include monitoring three-wheelers on the highway and ensuring that trucks and buses do not halt anywhere on the road.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Aslam Khan of Munshiganj stated that a special lane will be allocated for motorcycles on the expressway. Strict measures will be enforced to deter motorcycles from utilizing the main lanes of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.

"We will establish two control rooms along the highways to facilitate smooth journeys for the public. Any assistance required can be accessed by contacting the emergency number," he affirmed.
