Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that Bangladesh is not concerned by recent statements from an Indian state government regarding the installation of barbed wire along the border, adding that any such issue will be handled through official diplomatic channels.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a special meeting on law and order ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, held at the Secretariat on Tuesday (May 12).
The Home Minister said that if India maintains “no-man’s land” norms and proceeds with fencing activities, the matter will be discussed between the two central governments. He emphasized that statements made by any state-level authority in India do not represent official foreign policy positions, and therefore Bangladesh will respond only through diplomatic engagement with New Delhi.
He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will review the issue, while the Home Ministry’s primary responsibility is to ensure border security and prevent illegal “push-in” incidents. He said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains on high alert in this regard.
Regarding Eid-ul-Azha security preparations, the minister said that monitoring cells and hotlines of all relevant agencies will remain active for seven days before and after Eid. Special measures have also been taken to prevent extortion, particularly targeting livestock transport trucks.
He further stated that a nationwide anti-extortion drive launched on April 30 is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are regularly updating progress reports as part of strict enforcement measures.
