Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) — President Md. Shahabuddin has returned to the country after undergoing medical treatment and health check-ups in the United Kingdom.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-202) carrying the President landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 10:50 am on Monday (May 18). He had traveled to London on May 9 on medical advice for follow-up treatment and cardiac evaluation.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman Khan, along with senior diplomats including representatives of the British High Commission and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the President’s Office.
During his stay in the UK, the President underwent an angiogram at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge on May 12. Medical reports revealed a serious blockage in a coronary artery, following which doctors performed an emergency angioplasty and successfully placed a stent. Officials confirmed that his current condition is stable and satisfactory.
This was not the President’s first cardiac procedure; he previously underwent bypass surgery in Singapore in October 2023.
Despite receiving treatment abroad, the President continued performing his official duties digitally, including approving and signing important government documents sent from various ministries.
During his visit, he also held an informal courtesy meeting with Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris at the Hilton Hotel in London, according to officials.
