Dhaka, May 20 (V7N) — Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan has said that sacrificial animal markets will be allowed to operate for a maximum of five days under strict regulations ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, and any activity outside the approved period will be treated as illegal.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (May 20) during a meeting with leaseholders and other stakeholders at the DNCC auditorium on the management of temporary cattle markets.
The administrator said that around 100 regional executive officers have been granted magistracy powers and will conduct mobile court drives to prevent irregularities and unauthorized market operations.
He added that leaseholders will be entitled to 5 percent of sales revenue from cattle transactions, but no additional fees can be charged from buyers or sellers.
Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan also said that cattle markets cannot be set up in unauthorized locations and that strict legal action will be taken against illegal trading activities. Law enforcement agencies will support monitoring through mobile courts.
He instructed market operators to ensure proper sanitation, including daily waste disposal and prevention of waterlogging to avoid health hazards and foul odors.
Emphasizing public safety, the DNCC administrator said that women and children increasingly visit cattle markets, and their security must be ensured. He also directed leaseholders to install designated sanitation facilities, including separate “pink toilets” for women, in all approved markets.
