Dhaka, May 23 (V7N)- With Eid-ul-Azha just days away, sacrificial animal traders have started bringing cattle to markets across the capital, where giant cows with eye-catching names are already attracting visitors and potential buyers.
The capital’s official sacrificial animal markets opened on Saturday (May 23), although traders said it may take a few more days for the markets to become fully crowded with livestock and buyers.
Large cows brought from different districts are drawing particular attention, with names such as Sultan, Raja, Badsha and Lal Bahar being used to attract customers. Buyers visiting the markets on the opening day were mostly seen moving between different cattle markets to compare prices and inspect animals.
Traders and sellers said sales remain relatively slow for now, but they expect buyer pressure and transactions to increase significantly as Eid approaches. They are hopeful of getting fair prices this season.
Market authorities and lessees said several measures have been taken to maintain order and ensure safety at the markets. Adequate lighting systems and CCTV surveillance have been installed in different market areas.
Meanwhile, members of law enforcement agencies have also been deployed to prevent fraud, extortion and other irregular activities during the Eid cattle trade.
