Dhaka, May 23 (V7N) – The Eid-ul-Azha homebound journey officially began on Saturday (May 23), with a large number of passengers leaving the capital from Kamalapur Railway Station for destinations across the country.

From the early morning, every platform of the station was seen crowded with homebound passengers, marking the start of one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Passengers reported that advance train ticketing arrangements went smoothly and they were able to collect tickets without major difficulties. However, some passengers said issues remained with standing tickets. Railway officials confirmed that, so far, no train schedules have been disrupted.

During a visit to the station, Railway Secretary Fahimul Islam said that a three-tier security system has been put in place for the Eid travel period. He added that law enforcement agencies are actively working to prevent passengers from traveling on train roofs and to stop unauthorized entry into station premises. Mobile courts and monitoring teams are also operating to ensure discipline and passenger safety.

Authorities have also reminded passengers that strict enforcement measures are in place as part of the Eid travel management plan.

Meanwhile, the government has announced a seven-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, with most government offices and courts closed from May 25 to May 31. However, due to schedule adjustments, offices remain open on Saturday and Sunday before the full holiday begins.
