Dhaka, May 24 (V7N) – Sacrificial animal markets across Bangladesh are witnessing heavy activity ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with large numbers of cattle arriving from different districts, though traders report a higher presence of wholesale buyers compared to general customers.

In the Rangpur division, more than 500 permanent and temporary cattle markets, including Shathibari, Betgari, Khansama, and Barabari, are now crowded with livestock and traders. Buyers from Chittagong, Comilla, Khulna, and Barisal are also participating in the trade. Wholesale traders said cattle prices have increased by Tk 3,000–4,000 per maund compared to previous seasons, while many farmers claim they are still facing losses despite selling their animals.

In Jamalpur, over 35 cattle markets are operating with steady demand, although buyers say prices remain difficult to adjust with current market conditions.

Chuadanga has also seen active trading at five permanent markets, where medium and small indigenous cattle are more in demand than larger animals this season. Both buyers and sellers have expressed mixed reactions regarding pricing trends.

In Naogaon, medium-sized indigenous bulls remain the most popular choice among buyers. Farmers in the district reportedly brought double the number of cattle compared to local demand, resulting in increased supply but dissatisfaction among sellers over prices.

Meanwhile, in Kishoreganj, two large bulls named “Maharaja” and “Rajababu” have attracted significant attention from visitors and buyers. Farmers claim the animals were raised without harmful steroids and hope to secure premium prices.

Authorities have confirmed that livestock and agricultural officials are actively monitoring markets to ensure animal health and maintain regulatory oversight during the Eid season.
