Dhaka, May 25 (V7N) – The capital’s sacrificial animal markets have come alive with intense activity as the Eid-ul-Azha holiday period officially begins, with thousands of buyers flocking to major cattle markets across Dhaka.
From Gabtoli to Shahjahanpur, nearly all major livestock markets under the two city corporations are now witnessing heavy crowds. Truckloads of cattle, goats, and buffaloes are arriving from different districts, creating a festive atmosphere across around 25 to 26 markets in the capital.
Since early Monday morning, buyers and sellers have been actively engaged in trading. Many families have visited markets together to select sacrificial animals, while others have come simply to observe the bustling Eid preparations.
Demand is particularly high for medium-sized domestic cattle, which are considered affordable for middle-income buyers. Sellers say the large supply of livestock has created a wide price range, allowing customers to negotiate and choose animals according to their budgets.
Buyers, however, report that securing preferred animals often requires repeated bargaining rounds due to competitive demand and varying prices.
Traders remain optimistic about sales peaking in the final days leading up to Eid. However, some sellers also expressed concern that the presence of imported cattle, particularly from across the border, could impact local prices and affect their profit margins.
Authorities and market committees are continuing to monitor conditions to ensure smooth transactions and maintain order in the busy Eid markets.
