Dhaka, May 26 (V7N)- City residents continued leaving the capital on Tuesday (May 26), the second day of the Eid-ul-Azha public holiday, as people rushed home to celebrate with family and loved ones.

At Kamalapur Railway Station, several intercity trains departed late in the morning amid heavy passenger pressure. The Nilsagar Express, scheduled to leave at 6:15 am, departed at around 8 am, causing inconvenience for many passengers.

Station Manager Kabir Uddin said that around 20 trains had left the station so far and a total of 68 trains were scheduled to operate throughout the day. He added that the railway authorities have largely managed to maintain the schedule over the past four days.

Despite this, passengers reported severe overcrowding, with many unable to find seats and some even travelling on train roofs, particularly due to pressure from road traffic congestion.

At Sadarghat launch terminal, large crowds were also seen as many travelers chose river routes for their Eid journey. Several launches departed during the morning, although passengers complained of delays and overcrowding inside vessels.

Tensions were reported in some terminals as passengers alleged that some launches left without proper coordination despite being fully loaded.

Meanwhile, bus terminals in Mohakhali, Sayedabad and other parts of the capital also witnessed heavy passenger rush since early morning. Due to a shortage of buses, ticket sales were temporarily suspended in some counters.

Rainfall during the early hours further worsened the situation, increasing travel difficulties. Many buses left late by up to two hours, while passengers also complained of increased fares at several terminals.

Despite the hardships across all transport modes, many travelers said they were still happy to be heading home to celebrate Eid with their families.
