Munshiganj, Jun 03 (V7N) – Although the Eid-ul-Azha holidays have officially ended, thousands of tourists continue to flock to Shimulia Ghat and the iconic Padma Bridge in Louhajang Upazila, turning the area into one of the country's busiest tourist destinations.
Visitors from different parts of Bangladesh are gathering daily to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Padma River, Shimulia Ghat and the country's longest bridge. The continued influx of tourists has brought renewed vibrancy to the area, boosting local businesses and transportation services.
On-site observations showed visitors crowding the riverbank and bridge-adjacent areas from morning until late at night. Many families were seen enjoying boat rides on the Padma River using trawlers and speedboats, while children thronged toy shops and food stalls set up around the tourist zone.
Tourists said the panoramic view of the Padma River, the bridge and trains crossing overhead has made the location a favorite destination for family outings. Many visitors spent time taking photographs, enjoying the riverside atmosphere and watching the sunset over the river.
Local resident and restaurant owner Abdus Samad said that the steady flow of tourists has significantly increased business activities in the area. Transport workers have also reported higher earnings due to the growing number of visitors traveling to and from the site.
However, tourists highlighted several shortcomings in visitor facilities. Many complained about the lack of adequate washrooms and the limited availability of quality food outlets. Visitors called for the establishment of dedicated food courts, rest areas and improved public amenities to enhance the tourism experience.
Some tourists also raised concerns about security, particularly during the evening hours. They alleged that incidents of harassment occasionally occur and urged authorities to strengthen safety measures to ensure a secure environment for families and visitors.
Despite these challenges, Shimulia Ghat and the Padma Bridge area remain among the most popular attractions during and after the Eid holidays, drawing large crowds eager to experience the beauty of the Padma River and one of Bangladesh's most significant infrastructure landmarks.
