A significant transport crisis has gripped holidaymakers on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, with a 7-kilometer tailback forming at the Chandra intersection due to the heavy influx of vehicles as people set out on their Eid journeys.

The surge in commuters, including hundreds of thousands of homebound workers from Gazipur's industrial city, resulted in a transportation bottleneck on the highway. Many travelers were observed resorting to risky rides in open pickup vans and trucks to reach their destinations, as reported by Voice7 News.

Authorities from the district and highway police are actively engaged in efforts to alleviate the traffic congestion. Naojor Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Shahadat Hossain noted that the passenger influx intensified after midday, following the closure of factories, leading to sluggish movement of vehicles at Chandra.

While acknowledging the potential challenges for travelers today and tomorrow, OC Shahadat assured that law enforcement agencies are working diligently to restore order and facilitate smoother Eid commute on the highway.
