Dhaka, Jul 01 (V7N) — Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the textile industry is poised to become Bangladesh’s most profitable sector in the future, emphasizing the need to prioritize research, infrastructure development and the creation of a skilled workforce.
He made the remarks while addressing the orientation programme of the 52nd batch at Bangladesh University of Textiles on Wednesday morning.
The minister said Bangladesh must reduce its dependence on foreign professionals in the textile industry, noting that the sector had previously relied heavily on workers from India and Sri Lanka.
"We have to come out of this dependency by transforming our population into skilled human resources through proper training," he said.
Milon also said he would raise the issue of including textile engineers in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre with the relevant authorities. In addition, he announced plans to establish two new colleges for diploma engineers to strengthen technical education.
Addressing the country's academic calendar, the education minister assured students that the SSC, HSC and graduation examinations would be held on schedule without disruption.
He further announced that the existing national curriculum will be revised in 2027, with a new curriculum set to be introduced in 2028.
