Dhaka, Jul 05 (V7N) — Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said that Bangladesh's pathology and diagnostic sector has yet to achieve the level of development expected even after 53 years of independence, stressing the need for greater investment in technology, research and local innovation.
He made the remarks while addressing the international conference titled 'ICATH-ELMIC 2026' at the University of Dhaka on Sunday.
The Health Minister said the country's pathology and diagnostic sector remains relatively weak, with much of the healthcare system still dependent on imported products and technologies.
"After 53 years of independence, this is by no means a desirable situation for our economy," he said.
He emphasized that there is no alternative to technological advancement, research and domestic innovation to ensure quality healthcare services reach the grassroots level.
Referring to discussions during the parliamentary budget session, the minister said the government is aware of the challenges facing the health sector and is willing to provide all necessary cooperation and incentives to encourage new innovations.
Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain also warned that the government would not tolerate any form of irregularity or corruption in the health sector and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring greater accountability and transparency.
