London, Jul 17(V7N)- The Bangladesh High Commission in London observed July Martyrs' Day 2026 with due respect and solemnity through a discussion meeting held on Thursday (July 16) at 6:00 pm. The event was chaired by Acting High Commissioner Dr. M. Nazrul Islam.

Attorney General of Bangladesh Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal attended the program as the chief guest.

The event began with a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the July Uprising, followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran. Messages from the President and the Prime Minister were also read out to mark the occasion.

In his address, Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal paid tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising, describing their sacrifices as a glorious chapter in Bangladesh's history. He urged everyone to work together to establish a Bangladesh founded on the principles of the rule of law, justice, democracy, and non-discrimination while upholding the spirit of the martyrs' sacrifices.

Representatives from the UK branches of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam also addressed the gathering. They honored the sacrifices of the martyrs and called for unity in building a democratic, just, and discrimination-free Bangladesh inspired by their ideals.

In his concluding remarks, Acting High Commissioner Dr. M. Nazrul Islam expressed deep respect for the martyrs of the July Uprising and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls. He said the sacrifices of the martyrs would remain a historic milestone in the nation's struggle for freedom, justice, and democratic values.

He further urged Bangladeshis both at home and abroad to remain united in fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs and contributing to the development of a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Bangladesh.

The event was attended by representatives of various political, social, and professional organizations, members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United Kingdom, and officials and staff of the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
