Dhaka, Jul 12 (V7N) — At least 44 people have died in floods and landslides triggered by days of heavy rainfall in southeastern and northeastern Bangladesh, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

The ministry said 1,022,963 people have been affected by the disaster across seven districts, while 267,918 families remain stranded by floodwaters.

The worst-hit districts are Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

According to the ministry's updated report released on Saturday evening, floodwaters have inundated 386 unions and 11 municipalities in 58 upazilas.

Cox's Bazar recorded the highest death toll, with 23 fatalities caused by floods and landslides. Among those killed were 10 local residents and 13 Rohingya refugees. The district also reported 24 injuries.

In Chattogram, 11 people were killed and 12 others were injured in flood-related incidents, including wall collapses.

In Bandarban, six people lost their lives in flash floods and landslides, while two others were injured.

Rangamati reported three deaths, while one person died in flooding in Moulvibazar, according to the ministry.

Authorities continue rescue and relief operations in the affected areas as floodwaters remain high in several districts, with thousands of displaced families taking shelter in safer locations.
