Teknaf, Aug 20 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has recovered two foreign-made firearms, magazines and a large quantity of live ammunition during an operation in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The seizure was made during a raid conducted on the Naf River by Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Teknaf from 1am to 8am on Wednesday, following intelligence information, Coast Guard officials said.

According to the Coast Guard, its personnel spotted a suspicious wooden boat during the operation and signalled it to stop. The boat allegedly ignored the signal and sped into the Naitongpara Parabon area. The people on board subsequently abandoned the boat and fled.

A search of the boat led to the recovery of a foreign-made rifle, a foreign-made 9mm pistol with a magazine, 229 rounds of live rifle ammunition, two live pistol rounds, one blank pistol round and two MA-1 rifle magazines. The items were allegedly concealed inside a fishing net.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the seizure on Wednesday.

He said intelligence surveillance had been strengthened to identify and apprehend those involved.
