Ukhiya, Aug 20 (V7N) — Law enforcement authorities have arrested two alleged members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), including a suspected commander, from a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
The detainees were identified as Mohammad Alam, alias Musa, 40, and his associate Abdul Hafiz, 22. They were arrested during a raid in the area of Rohingya Camp 6 at around 9pm on Wednesday.
Mohammad Siraj Amin, Additional Deputy Inspector General and commander of the 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn), which is responsible for security in the refugee camps, confirmed the arrests.
He said the APBn received intelligence that ARSA commander Mohammad Alam, alias Musa, and his associate were staying in the Camp 6 area. Acting on the information, a team conducted an operation and arrested the two men.
According to the APBn, the two suspects admitted during preliminary questioning that they were active members of ARSA’s armed wing.
APBn sources said Mohammad Alam, alias Musa, is named as accused No. 29 in a murder case filed with Ukhiya Police Station. Several other cases, including allegations related to murder, drugs and firearms, are also pending against him, according to the sources.
Legal proceedings against the two arrested individuals are underway, the APBn said.
