Savar, July 26 (V7N)- Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed paid tribute to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War by laying a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar on Sunday (July 26).

He placed the wreath at the National Memorial premises at around 11:30 am and paid homage to the nation’s best sons who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.

After laying the wreath, the Acting President observed a minute’s silence in memory of the martyrs. At the time, members of the three services of the armed forces presented him with a guard of honour.

Later, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed signed the visitors’ book at the National Memorial and planted a sapling on the memorial grounds as part of the tribute programme.

Following the National Memorial visit, the Acting President is scheduled to pay homage at the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital at around 12:30 pm.

The visit marks the beginning of his official activities after assuming the responsibilities of Acting President following the resignation of former President Md. Shahabuddin.
