The bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom is "evolving," according to British Foreign Minister David Cameron, from being development-focused to becoming a contemporary economic, security, and migratory collaboration.

"I hope that through cooperating, we can enhance our security cooperation, expand our trade and investment connections, and work together to address global and regional issues like climate change, an open and free Indo-Pacific, and the well-being of the Rohingya refugees," he stated.

The British Foreign Minister congratulated Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud and stated that he places "great importance" on advancing collaboration in addressing illegal migration, particularly that from Bangladesh.

“I look forward to hearing your priorities for our relationship and to working together to deliver our mutual interests,” said the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

The British Foreign Minister congratulated Hasan on his appointment as Foreign Minister of Bangladesh following the recent elections.

“I look forward to working with you, building on our deep shared history, people-to-people ties and wide-ranging shared interests and values,” he said.

The British Foreign Minister stated that the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office had released a statement that outlined their positions on human rights and democracy and mirrored these ideals.

He promised to keep having fruitful conversations about these matters with Foreign Minister Hasan.

As he begins his new position, David Cameron sent congratulations to his counterpart from Bangladesh.

Hasan Mahmud received the letter on Wednesday from British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke.
