Responding to BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's claims of mass arrests, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader clarified that no mass arrests are being conducted, rather, the government is taking action against miscreants.

The minister said: "No mass arrests are being made here, action is being taken against miscreants. No innocent person will be harassed. Action is being taken against the terrorists on the basis of specific evidence.”

He said this in a statement signed by Awami League Office Secretary Biplab Barua on Saturday.

Quader condemned and protested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's false, fabricated, and politically motivated statements.

He said: "Mirza Fakhrul's call for national unity is against the Liberation War spirit represents a unity with anti-state forces, extremism, militancy. BNP's unity call with Jamaat reaffirms its inseparable ties and alliance with anti-independence elements.”

"BNP’s call for unity is a threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty,” he added.

The minister said: "The government handled this massacre with great restraint, aiming to avoid any loss of life. In contrast, BNP, Jamaat and their affiliates engaged in exploiting casualties for political gain. Law enforcement, supported by unarmed Awami League activists, responded to armed opposition cadres. Together with civilians, they worked to protect national assets and ensure public safety."

He further added: "BNP and Jamaat's trained cadres gathered in Dhaka for a destructive and murderous campaign, targeting national establishments like the BTV Bhaban, Setu Bhaban, and various public infrastructures. After wreaking havoc and committing looting and murders, they dispersed."
