Dhaka, August 2- In celebration of 'National Fisheries Week-2024,' President Md. Sahabuddin released fish fry of various species into the Lion Pond at Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon. The event is part of an annual tradition aimed at promoting fish cultivation and awareness.

During the ceremony, a total of 4,718 fish fry, weighing 426 kg, were introduced into the pond. The species included Rui, Katla, Mrigel, Kalibaus, Mahashol, Suvarna Rui, Pabda, Gulsha, and Shrimp. This event is one of many activities organized for National Fisheries Week, which runs from July 30 to August 5 under the theme "Bharbo mache moder desh, garbo smart Bangladesh" (Let's fill our country with fish, pride of smart Bangladesh).

In addition to the Lion Pond, fish fry are also released in the other three ponds within Bangabhaban, namely Danadighi, Mazar Pond, and Deer Pond, as part of the annual celebrations.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Dr. Wahidul Islam Khan, Secretary of the President's Office; Major General Mohammad Adil Chowdhury, Military Secretary; Md. Zainal Abedin, Press Secretary; Syed Mahmood Belal Haider, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; and senior officials from the Directorate of Fisheries.

National Fisheries Week is organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, along with the Directorate of Fisheries, and serves to highlight the importance of the fisheries sector in Bangladesh's economy and food security.
