Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, the director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), is currently visiting the Tumbru boundary as hostilities between insurgents and Myanmar junta forces intensify.

On Wednesday, February 7, at approximately 10:30 a.m., he arrived in Tumbru and proceeded to the border station to oversee all activities. From there, he will travel to the Ghumdhum frontier.

He is expected to visit the following border areas: Whykong BOP under Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB), Palangkhali border outpost of Ukhiya under Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), Tumbru BOP and Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari in Bandarban.

BGB DG visited Tungipara on Tuesday, February 6, to honor Bangabandhu, the father of Bangladesh.

He informed the media that 264 men from the army, the Border Guard Police (BGP), and other Myanmar military units had fled to Bangladesh. He stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had given them the go-ahead to be patient and added, "We are patiently trying to deal with the situation by maintaining good international relations on humanitarian grounds."

The Arakan Army has escalated its offensive on junta forces in the border region of Rakhine State, Myanmar, where a fierce battle is now raging. At least two people—including a Bangladeshi woman—have been killed and numerous more are injured as a result of shells and bullets fired from inside Myanmar that are falling into Bangladesh.

As of Tuesday, February 6, 264 BGP members, together with personnel from different agencies in Myanmar, and a small number of civilians, had escaped to Bangladesh. They are in the hands of the BGB after being disarmed.

Bangladesh has been advised by security analysts to make a well-informed judgment and bring up the issue vigorously in international forums.
