Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) — The Government of Bangladesh has announced a reduction in retail fuel prices effective from January 1, 2026. According to the new rates issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, diesel, octane, petrol, and kerosene prices will each be lowered by Tk 2 per liter.

The revised prices are as follows: diesel will be sold at Tk 102 per liter, down from Tk 104; octane at Tk 122 per liter, down from Tk 124; petrol at Tk 118 per liter, down from Tk 120; and kerosene at Tk 114 per liter, down from Tk 116.

The ministry cited global oil market trends and domestic price stabilization as key reasons for the adjustment. Officials said the move is aimed at reducing the cost burden on consumers and supporting economic activities across various sectors, including transport, agriculture, and industry.

Energy analysts have noted that while the reduction is modest, it reflects the government’s commitment to providing relief to consumers amid fluctuating international fuel prices. Retailers and fuel stations have been instructed to immediately implement the new prices and ensure compliance across the country.

The government will continue to monitor global oil markets and domestic demand to make further adjustments if necessary. This latest price cut is expected to have a direct impact on transportation costs, electricity generation using diesel, and household energy expenses, particularly for low- and middle-income consumers.
