Jhalokathi, Jan 01 (V7N) — An elderly mentally challenged woman injured in a road accident in front of Sanai Community Center on Thana Road in Jhalokathi city is currently receiving treatment at Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital. Authorities and local representatives are appealing to the public to help locate her family.
According to local sources, the woman had been lying by the roadside for the past five to seven days in severe cold while in poor health. Eyewitnesses reported that she fell after being hit by an auto-rickshaw, leaving her helpless on the street.
The incident came to public attention on Sunday night, December 28, when Md. Arifur Rahman (Rayhan), the Jhalokathi correspondent of the daily newspaper “Ajker Potrika,” visited the scene. Observing the woman suffering in freezing temperatures, he shared her situation on social media. Soon, an anonymous individual provided a blanket to keep her warm.
The following morning, Monday, December 29, around 11:30 a.m., she was transported by ambulance to Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital. Medical examination and X-ray reports revealed a serious injury to her waist, leaving her unable to stand. She is currently admitted to Bed No. 7 in the women’s surgical ward. Hospital staff, social service officers, and correspondent Arifur Rahman are overseeing her care while efforts continue to identify her relatives.
On Wednesday, December 31, a general diary (GD) was filed at Jhalokathi Sadar Police Station. Based on information obtained from the woman, her details are as follows:
