Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) reported a 1.17 percent drop in overall inflation in August compared to July. According to the report released on Sunday, inflation stood at 11.66 percent in July, decreasing to 10.49 percent in August.

The data also revealed that food inflation saw a notable decline, falling to 11.36 percent in August from 14.10 percent in July.

However, non-food inflation showed a slight increase, rising from 9.68 percent in July to 9.74 percent in August.

In July, inflation reached its highest point in the last 13 years, spurred by the student quota reform movement, with overall inflation peaking at 11.66 percent. In comparison, the inflation rate was 9.72 percent in June.

Food inflation in July hit a 13-year high of 14 percent, the highest since April 2011, when it reached 14.36 percent. This marked the first time food inflation crossed 14 percent since then.
