Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N)- Outsourcing employees working in various government institutions have lifted their blockade at the Shahbagh intersection, issuing a 15-day ultimatum to make their jobs permanent. Traffic resumed in the area after the protesters cleared the road around 4 PM on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of protesters visited the Chief Adviser’s office, seeking assurance regarding their demands. Following assurances from government officials, the protesters withdrew their blockade while setting a 15-day deadline for their demands to be addressed.

The protest began on Saturday morning, as employees demanded the cancellation of the outsourcing system and the regularization of their jobs. Workers from institutions such as the Water Development Board, Barapukuria Coal Mine, and Karnaphuli Gas Transmission Company also joined the demonstration at Shahbagh, raising their voices for similar issues.

Although it was a weekend, the blockade caused significant traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, particularly affecting patients and their families traveling to nearby hospitals.

The agitators emphasized that their demonstration was not intended to cause disruption but to fight for their rights. They expressed frustration at being paid based on the whims of contractors, despite working under government management, and stated that they are being denied basic employment benefits.
