Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – A clash occurred at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka today, shortly before the jummah prayer, as followers of current Khatib Waliur Rahman and former Khatib Ruhul Amin clashed after Amin attempted to reinstate himself at the mosque with his supporters.

Ruhul Amin, who has been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government, arrived at the mosque with his followers around 12:30 PM, while Waliur Rahman was addressing worshippers.

Confirming the situation, a police official from the Motijheel zone, who preferred anonymity, stated that three of Ruhul Amin's followers were detained following the confrontation.

Eyewitnesses reported that while Waliur Rahman Khan was delivering his pre-prayer speech, Maulana Mufti Ruhul Amin entered the mosque with his followers and seized the microphone. This led to a confrontation, with supporters of the current Khatib resisting those of Ruhul Amin. A scuffle broke out, resulting in several injuries, and many worshippers left the mosque.

Following the clash, army personnel arrived at the mosque in response to the incident. A significant number of police officers were already present in the Baitul Mukarram area. By 1:15 PM, order was restored, and regular worshippers re-entered the mosque to continue their prayers.

Police requested the group to leave the mosque area, but they refused, standing in the street. The situation was eventually brought under control as army, police, and RAB members cleared the group from the road.
