DHAKA, Oct 03, V7N- Despite rainfall, Dhaka ranked 31st on the list of cities with the worst air quality on Thursday morning, registering an AQI score of 65, classifying the air as 'moderate.' While this means the general public is not at risk, sensitive individuals should limit prolonged outdoor activities.

The AQI categorizes air quality based on pollution levels, with values between 50-100 being moderate and higher levels ranging from unhealthy for sensitive groups to hazardous. The cities with the worst air quality were Lahore (AQI 220), Jakarta (AQI 179), and Kinshasa (AQI 160), highlighting severe pollution in those regions.

Dhaka, known for grappling with air pollution, often experiences worse air quality in winter, which tends to improve during the monsoon. Bangladesh's AQI measures pollutants like PM10, PM2.5, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is responsible for around seven million deaths annually due to its links to various health issues like heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory infections.
