Dhaka, Oct 08 (V7N) — A Dhaka court has accepted a defamation case against suspended Assistant Commissioner Taapsee Tabassum Urmi for making controversial comments about Abu Saeed and others. The court has summoned Urmi to appear before it on November 28.

The case was filed by Abu Hanif, senior council member and media coordinator of the People's Rights Council, in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court under Magistrate Zakir Hossain on Tuesday. Following the hearing, the court accepted the plaintiff's statement and issued the summons.

According to the case application, on October 5, Taapsee Tabassum Urmi allegedly made defamatory comments not only about Abu Saeed, who is regarded as a martyr, but also about the government and its head, who was established through a student-mass movement. It is also claimed that Urmi posted insulting statements on Facebook against Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The comments reportedly challenged the legitimacy of the government, as confirmed by a reference from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, and hinted at inciting public unrest aimed at toppling the administration.

Plaintiff's lawyer, Khademul Islam, confirmed the details of the case, expressing the plaintiff's concerns over the harmful impact of such statements on public order and the reputation of key figures in the country.
