Dhaka, Oct 21 (V7N)— The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, has granted permission for Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus to appeal against the rejection of his petition challenging the validity of a complaint regarding the embezzlement of approximately Tk 25 crores from workers' dividends at Grameen Telecom.

The court has scheduled November 19 for the hearing of the appeal.

Earlier, on July 24, Dr. Yunus, who also serves as the chairman of Grameen Telecom and was the chief advisor of the interim government, filed a petition contesting the legality of the complaints in the case. However, the High Court dismissed his plea and instructed the trial court to resolve the case within one year.

The case originated from allegations that Grameen Telecom's workers and employees had been deprived of their rightful dividends. On June 12, a trial court framed charges against Dr. Yunus and 13 others connected with the company.

This legal development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing case involving one of the country's most prominent figures.
