Dhaka, Oct 22 (V7N) – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka has granted a 5-day remand for former MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon in connection with the attempted murder of Jubo Dal leader and assistant cook of Mirpur's Bangaliana Bhoj, Hridoy Mia. The decision came on Tuesday after a hearing on the police's request for a 10-day remand for questioning.

Sumon, a prominent figure in the political and legal spheres, was brought to the CMM Court earlier in the day under charges linked to a case filed at Mirpur Model Police Station. The police had sought a 10-day remand, citing the need to investigate his involvement in the case, which includes charges related to explosives and attempted murder. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a 5-day remand for further questioning.

Barrister Sumon was arrested late Monday night (October 21) from his sister’s residence in Mirpur on the basis of secret information. His arrest followed a public announcement on his verified Facebook page, where he informed followers that he was being taken into custody by the police.

The case has drawn significant attention due to Sumon’s political background and previous role as a member of parliament for Habiganj-4 Constituency. The charges against him stem from an alleged attempt on the life of Jubo Dal leader Hridoy Mia, with explosive materials reportedly involved.

Barrister Sumon, who has been a vocal proponent of political reforms and has maintained his stance on integrity and the rule of law, remains under investigation as the legal process unfolds.
