Chittagong, Jan 06 (V7N) — Records of 1,911 cases, including those involving murder, drugs, smuggling, and explosives, have gone missing from the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court. A general diary (GD) was filed regarding the incident at the city's Kotwali police station on Sunday (January 5).
The GD, filed by lawyer Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan, states that the Metropolitan Public Prosecutor's Office had stored 28 to 30 sacks of case dockets on the front porch of the office due to a lack of space. The documents reportedly disappeared between December 13 and 31 during the court's vacation period. Despite thorough searches, the records have not been recovered.
The missing case dockets are critical as they pertain to ongoing legal proceedings involving serious criminal charges. The incident has raised concerns over the security and management of sensitive legal documents.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to locate the missing records and determine the circumstances under which they disappeared. Legal experts have highlighted the potential disruption to judicial processes and the risk of delaying justice for the affected cases.
Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
