Dhaka, Mar 06 (V7N) – Former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar has been granted bail in a case related to accepting a bribe of Tk 21 crore to exempt Bashundhara Group director Sabbir Sobhan Sanvir from a murder case.
Judge Md. Abu Taher of Dhaka's Special Judge-3 Court issued the bail order on Thursday (March 6). The court has also set March 18 as the date for presenting arguments against eight accused, including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Babar.
The case was originally filed in 2007 at Ramna Police Station in the capital, alleging that Babar and others accepted a Tk 21 crore bribe to help Sanvir avoid legal consequences in the murder of Bashundhara Group director Sabbir Sobhan.
The other accused in the case include:
- Tarique Rahman, BNP acting chairman
- Mia Nur Uddin Apu, then APS to Tarique Rahman
- Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal
- Ahmed Akbar Sobhan
- Safiyat Sobhan
- Sadat Sobhan
- Abu Sufian
With the court proceedings set to continue, the case remains a significant legal battle involving high-profile political and business figures in Bangladesh.
