Dhaka, Mar 16 (V7N) – Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been officially included as an accomplice in the first case related to the July-August massacre, along with ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The International Crimes Tribunal has also granted permission to interrogate him on March 18.

On Sunday morning (March 16), Mamun was brought to the International Crimes Tribunal in a police prison van.

Chief Prosecutor: Mamun Was Key in Executing Sheikh Hasina's Orders

During the hearing, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam stated that former IGP Mamun played a crucial role in carrying out Sheikh Hasina’s directives, which led to his inclusion as an accessory accused in the case.

“The investigation process in Sheikh Hasina's case is ongoing, and we hope to submit a report soon,” he added.

Prosecution Team: Led by Md. Mizanur Rahman, Gazi MH Tamim, and BM Sultan Mahmud.

Defense Representation: Lawyer Naznin Nahar appeared on behalf of the accused.

Next Step: Mamun will be questioned by the tribunal on March 18.

Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 last year, the Ministry of Public Administration canceled Abdullah Al Mamun's contractual appointment as IGP. He was later arrested on September 4.

The International Crimes Tribunal has also summoned Awami League and Jubo League leaders Sayedur Rahman Sujan, Mizanur Rahman, and Zakir Hossain to appear before the tribunal on May 18 in connection with the murder of Ashabul Yamin in Savar.
