Dhaka, Nov 02 (V7N)- The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is set to deliver its order today (Sunday) on framing charges against five individuals, including Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu, in a separate case of crimes against humanity.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, is scheduled to issue the order later in the day.
The other accused in the case are Kushtia District Council Chairman and District Awami League President Sadar Uddin Khan, General Secretary Azgar Ali, and Sadar Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata. All the accused remain absconding, and state defense counsel have been appointed to represent them.
During the charge sheet hearing earlier, Hasanul Haque Inu’s lawyer, Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, argued that Inu had worked to prevent loss of life during the July uprising, denying any involvement in crimes against humanity.
On September 25, the tribunal had accepted formal charges against Inu in connection with murders and crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the anti-discrimination student movement in Kushtia.
Meanwhile, the tribunal will also record the 13th day of witness testimony today in the Chankharpul murder case, which involves the killing of six people. So far, 20 witnesses have testified in that case.
